THE DUKES OF GOETIA
By Carl Nagel
From the Author, Carl Nagel -
This new work is being written following, and as a result of, a request by The Owner of Forbidden Realms for a follow-up to my previous work, The Nine Goetian Kings. The art and practice of Goetian Magic is, for the greater part, concerned with invocations designed to grant the user the power to control the demons and angels listed in the black magical document: The Goetia, The Lesser Key of Solomon.
The copy I am working from was translated from the original Latin text by Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers (1854-1918), with an introduction by Aleister Crowley (1875-1947). If the reader is interested, A. E. Waite’s The Book of Black Magic and of Pacts (1898), contains a synopsis of the Goetia.
At this point you may have expected to hear that you will be required to stand steadfastly at the center of a Magic Circle, with candles lit and incense burning, armed with a Blasting Rod. The Blasting Rod was a branch obtained from an untouched hazel tree no more than a year old, which was then cut and decorated with esoteric symbols. In the practice of Goetian Magic the Blasting Rod was considered to be an integral part of the art, and a magical instrument of the highest importance.
Actually, nothing could be further from the truth, you will be sitting in a room sometime between sunrise and sunset when contact with the invisible world of spirits will happen quite unexpectedly. And there will appear in your mind an image of the Spirit. You can expect to establish a working relationship with the Goetian Spirits quite quickly; and they will become an integral a part of your life.
